Software and Systems Architect

Work closely with vendors and technical resources on projects and support with a focus on support of the storage infrastructure (EMC, VMAX, Celerra, IBM, Cisco Switches, Brocade Switches, NetApp, Centera, NAS, VTLs (Virtual Tape Libraries) and serve as the technical subject matter expertise on these assigned storage systems and associated processes and procedures.

Evaluate and recommend best practices for Cloud computing and virtualization solutions

Understand Zurich Global IT and IT Operations Service Model and how daily activities are related to its defined Services including Change & Configuration, Problem, Incident and Transition management and other established Operations Management team procedures.

Escalation of technical issues for communication and engagement, Interaction with Infrastructure teams to resolve issues.

Able to support and facilitate incident calls, monitoring progress as requested and be very comfortable communicating to all levels of IT and business audience.

Collaboration with technology teams on service delivery and solutions which require storage and help various teams use the right storage based on their requirements.

Develop an understanding of project engagement processes (transition management) and partner with project teams on fulfilling the success criteria.

Help determine Upgrade, firmware, and patch management working with various vendors, regularly identify and implement improvement opportunities.

Help review changes and coordinate, communicate, and execute maintenance activities, upgrades, and patching efforts.

Review the metrics reporting including health, activity, and status, Capacity management reports on a regular basis and assess the impacts/gaps and bring attention to appropriate management level.

Help implement Innovations in automation of storage services provided by vendors for efficiency

Provide 24x7 IT operations support in a team on a rotation and on-call basis. Adjust working hours and schedule as needed.  Primary hours are onsite between 8am and 5pm Monday through Friday.

Be able lead small to medium projects from initiation to completion and fulfill other Operations Management responsibilities as assigned by Operations Management leadership team.

Job Responsibilities:

 BJ’s Wholesale Club in Westborough, MA seeks an Application Developer to join its IT Logistics team. This team member will:
  • Create and Review business requirements.
  • Develop technical specifications.
  • Develop Reports, dashboards and other customizations using tools such as ETL, SQL Stored Procedures, and other third party tools.
  • Develop and troubleshoot interfaces to and from IT Logistics applications.
  • Manage relationship with various external resources.
  • Be responsible for performance related improvements as needed to ensure stabilization.
  • Utilize best practices, guidelines and repeatable processes.

• Develop the skills necessary to act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for various Logistics systems (WMS, TMS, etc.).

• Partner with Business and IT teams to remedy issues and implement changes.

• Provide a high level of customer service to our internal business partners.

• Communicate clearly and in a timely manor.

• Be a proactive problem solver.
  • Provide on call support during assigned rotation (24 x 7).
  • Deliver project tasks according to project plan dates.
  • Complete project life cycle documentation.
  • Develop and execute system and Integration test plans.

Job Requirements

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in a Computer Science, Business or related field is desired; equivalent work experience in information technology will be considered.

• Previous experience working with both operational databases and decision support systems.

• Some understanding of relational data models, reporting data requirements, system interfaces and data conversion.

• Experience with SQL, and/or scripting languages (such as Unix Shell) is preferred.

• Experience with Linux, AIX, Oracle, and/or Windows environments is preferred. 

• Very good written and verbal communication skills.

• Works well independently and as part of a team.

• Retail industry, and/or Warehouse Management/Transportation Management experience is preferred.

• Understanding of Java, Integration software, Websphere, Webmethods/MQ, or RF Networks/equipment is a plus.
